The Wraith homeworld is the planet in the Pegasus galaxy where the Iratus bug first evolved, later resulting in the creation of the Wraith. It has a Spacegate and, unusual for a terrestrial planet, planetary rings.
History[edit | edit source]
At the time the Atlantis expedition first arrived into the Pegasus galaxy, the Wraith homeworld housed a Hive ship, with most of its inhabitants lying dormant under the care of the Wraith Keeper. The Hive there held Athos as part of its territory.
When a Wraith relay device alerted them to the presence of someone with the Ancient Technology Activation gene, the Keeper of the Hive sent three Wraith Darts to investigate, capturing some of the Tau'ri and Athosians, including Teyla Emmagan and Colonel Marshall Sumner of the Atlantis expedition. Major John Sheppard and Lt. Aiden Ford subsequently organized a rescue mission, which, while successful in retrieving most of the prisoners, resulted in the awakening of the Wraith on the planet, as well as them learning of the existence of Earth. (SGA: "Rising")
Notes[edit | edit source]
While the Stargate: Atlantis TV series itself specified little information about the Wraith-controlled planet that appeared in "Rising", it was identified as the Wraith homeworld in Stargate Atlantis: The DVD Collection 65. In the novel Stargate Atlantis: Secrets, it was revealed that the Ancients originally created the Wraith on a frozen planet. While this frozen world could technically have been considered their original planet of origin, the planet mentioned in this article served as their homeworld when it was visited by the Atlantis expedition in 2004.
