He and roughly 80 people were forced to evacuate Icarus Base during an attack against the base by three Lucian Alliance Ha'tak vessels. He ended up on the Destiny, an Ancient spaceship located several billion light years from Earth. (SGU: "Air, Part 1")
He was part of the group sent to the planet Eden. He was first seen holding his briefcase very tightly. On the planet, as Lt. Matthew Scott demonstrated how to build a basic support structure for a tent, Vince Kwan watched him with interest and diligently took some notes. He played soccer with other expedition members and elected to stay on the planet alongside other civilians, believing it to be a better chance for survival than the ship. (SGU: "Faith")
He would later be returned to Destiny with everyone else that stayed behind on the planet. Before long, it was discovered that the entire group had in fact died on the planet, most freezing to death during the winter. Though they were restored to life and returned to Destiny, they all began dying as they did on the planet. Kwan died in his sleep of hypothermia. (SGU: "Visitation")
Behind the scenes[]
- Before being given an official name, he was known among fans as Balding Asian Guy (B.A.G. for short). A small campaign was organized to get him returned to the show following his departure.
- The campaigners idolized the character and several objects he held during the episode, including his briefcase and notepad.
- Though the name "Vince Kwan" was given on Mallozzi's Weblog, Nicholas Rush refers to him as "Mr. Chan" in conversation with Caine (Rush references Chan's balding hair, a trait not shared by the rest of the civilians left on the planet).
