The United Nations Security Council (abbreviated UNSC) is a principal organ of the United Nations. The organization deals with maintaining peace and security between Tau'ri nations. At present, it consists of fifteen members. Five members hold their seats on the council on a permanent basis: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States . The remaining ten are elected by the United Nations General Assembly every October for staggered two-year terms on a regional basis: three members from Africa, two from Asia, two from Latin America, two from the "Western European and Others Group" (which contains Western Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel), and one from Eastern Europe.

In 2003, the UN Security Council held a meeting concerning the Stargate program and the reactions from the neighboring countries. (SG1: "Disclosure")
