Tyr was a member of the Asgard race and had been the Commander of the Valkyries.
Biography[]
Pre-Protected Planets Treaty[]
Tyr was a highly distinguished member of their military and served as Commander of the Valkyries, prior to the creation of the Protected Planets Treaty. He was involved in operations against the Goa'uld in the Milky Way galaxy. He also developed Shock spears, which the Valkryie used as their primary weapons. Post Protected Planets Treaty[]
He was present when the Protected Planets Treaty was struck, and following the creation of the Treaty, Tyr took a number of Humans under his protection and settled them on a world devoid of a Stargate called Vanaheim. The planet was in the grips of an ice age and many of the settlers died as a result of the cold winter but managed to prosper during the other climates. Tyr was known to have transported a Stargate from another world to Vanaheim and warned the Human inhabitants of the world of the threat of the Goa'uld. He also differed on the opinion of deploying Thor's Hammer on Vanaheim; instead, Tyr provided its inhabitants with shock spears as well as allowed them to develop into an advanced people. This was because Tyr felt that the only way the Human inhabitants of Vanaheim could defend against the Goa'uld was by defending themselves.
His actions, however, proved to be quite unpopular amongst the Asgard who felt that Tyr had interfered in the natural development of a species. It was Thor who stripped Tyr of his rank and demoted him to being the commander of a single ship. Despite this being the case, the inhabitants of Vanaheim prospered and held Tyr in high esteem as a god. (RPG: "Fantastic Frontiers: Stargate Season One")
2000[]
In the year 2000, the Asgard and Tollans approached Stargate Command about Earth stealing their technology. Another meeting was then called for an update on the investigation. General George S. Hammond, who brought Dr. Janet Fraiser along for the meeting on Tollana, informed the Curia that Colonel Jack O'Neill and SG-1 was missing. Three Asgard representatives were in attendance, Tyr, Thor, and one other.
When Hammond brought up the possibility of having someone other than O'Neill investigate, the Tollan Morrel was against it. Hammond asked them to take him on his word that he picked people he trusted. Tyr responded that it wasn't his word that was the problem. Tyr and Thor brought up that humans of Earth put other things above survival of their species and the good of all for feelings such as love, friendship, and selfish-ness, and while that didn't mean they couldn't be trusted it did mean it could cloud judgements. As opposed to the Asgard whose genetic survival is their primary goal, and at the time, were also facing great threats in their own galaxy and as such couldn't risk their technology being compromised. When Hammond asked for their help to look for O'Neill instead, Thor cited Tyr's point that they had to face other threats in their own galaxy, so they didn't have the resources to help.
