The German Reich refers to the government of Germany in the years of 1933 to 1945 when it was governed by the National Socialist German Workers Party (Nazi Party) led by Führer Adolf Hitler under the belief that the Germanic peoples are an ancient people called the Aryans and saw themselves as the superior race of all humanity and classed most other Tau'ri groups to be sub-human on Earth.

After the Stargate's discovery in Giza in 1928, it had remained in Egypt until 1939. Having no knowledge of what the Gate was for, it was feared to be some kind of weapon.
