Synopsis[]

SG-1's only hope for Jacob Carter to survive and to ensure the Tau'ri/Tok'ra alliance a success is for Jacob to undergo an implantation of the Tok'ra Selmak. Meanwhile, their base is exposed to the Goa'uld via an operative on the inside, putting everyone's lives in great danger.

Previously on Stargate SG-1[]

Captain Samantha Carter uses the memories of Jolinar of Malkshur to find the Tok'ra. They enter the Tok'ra tunnels and meet their leader Garshaw of Belote, Jolinar's mate Martouf, and Selmak, whose host is dying. Colonel Jack O'Neill witnesses Cordesh using a Long range visual communication device. Back on Earth, Major General Jacob Carter's cancer takes a turn for the worse and Major General George S. Hammond sends SG-3 to bring Carter home, only for the group to learn that the Tok'ra have denied them a chance to work together but also the opportunity to send Carter back to Earth because she is the highest security risk of the entire group due to the fact that she possess the memories of Jolinar of Malkshur.

Plot[]

SG-1 goes to a planet, hoping to find the Tok'ra and form an alliance. Their proposal is denied and SG-1 hopes to gain their trust, by helping them to evacuate from an attack of the System Lords.

After SG-1's proposal for an alliance is denied by the Tok'ra, SG-1 and SG-3, who were sent to extract Captain Samantha Carter because her father is dying in a hospital from cancer, are being held until the Tok'ra move to another base. Carter asks to see Garshaw of Belote, the leader of the Tok'ra, to offer her a host she needs to save a fellow Tok'ra, Selmak. Jack and Carter are allowed to leave through the Stargate to propose blending with Selmak to Jacob Carter.

Carter tells her father the truth about her job and explains the situation. He agrees to help them gain the trust of the Tok'ra. Upon their return to the Tok'ra base, they discover that everyone is evacuating and Dr. Daniel Jackson, Teal'c, and SG-3 are helping. Daniel tells Colonel Jack O'Neill and Carter, that the Goa'uld System Lords are poised to attack the planet. Jack goes off to help the evacuation, and Sam and Jacob make their way to Selmak.

While Selmak and Jacob get to know each other, Jack does some digging on how the System Lords learned the location of the base and discovers that Cordesh uses a Long range visual communication device; these are not used by the Tok'ra, since the network is not secure.

The Tok'ra, Part 2 1

Cordesh' former host Firnan committing suicide by throwing himself into one of the vanishing tunnels

After Jack tells this to Garshaw, she and several other Tok'ra go to arrest Cordesh. They find him, or rather his host Firnan, in one of the vanishing tunnels, claiming that he is not who he seems to be and committing suicide by throwing himself into one of the vanishing tunnels, which crushes Firnan to death as the others look on, stunned.

Jacob, after talking to Saroosh, Selmak's host, agrees to blend with her. Selmak decides that she likes him and also agrees to be blended.

After the symbiote switches over to Jacob, Saroosh dies and Selmak starts to heal his cancer. Moving him would kill him, so they have to wait until Selmak has healed Jacob.

Liandra

Cordesh/Liandra is exposed as the spy for the System Lords.

Jack discovers Liandra carrying the box in which he previously found the long range communication device and stops her. She is revealed to be Cordesh, who has not died in the vanishing tunnel, only his previous host. She insists that the plague that is the Tok'ra will soon be wiped out.

Having regarded Cordesh as one of her friends, Garshaw is left disgusted by the news and soon tells them that the Goa'uld is to be executed and put into one of the vanishing tunnels while also hoping to save the host.

SG-1, SG-3, and Garshaw go to Carter, Martouf, and Jacob, who is still unconscious. Carter and Martouf are holding hands, and Carter jumps up at the arrival of Garshaw. Carter and Martouf agree to wait until Jacob wakes up, the rest make their way to the Stargate. They barely make it through the Stargate, with Death Gliders approaching from the skies.

After some waiting, Jacob awakens, fully healed of both his cancer and his arthritis, and they too try to escape. At the Gate, they see that the Goa'uld are dialing to the planet, and Sam tries to dial faster than they do. A Wormhole engages, and they take the risk that Sam was faster and go through.

They, of course, go to Earth, and the Tau'ri and the Tok'ra form an alliance because of Jacob, who agrees to function as liaison between the two people. His last words, before he leaves through the Gate with Garshaw and Martouf, are "Don't call us, we'll call you."

Notable quotes[]

O'Neill: So we are prisoners. You're lookin' like Goa'uld to me.
Garshaw: We're doing this for your protection as well as ours. Knowledge of our whereabouts makes you and your world a priority target for the System Lords.
O'Neill: We're already a priority target.
Teal'c: They previously dispatched two motherships to destroy us.

Jacob: My little girl grew up seeing me going God knows where, fighting God knows who, and I always came back alive. Now she is going watch me lose a war, to a little runt so small I can't even see it.

Hammond: Captain Carter, I am truly sorry about your father, but I have to question the wisdom of what you're suggesting here. From what I've seen, this won't be saving his life; it'll be more like giving his body to a Goa'uld.
Carter: No sir, more like letting one share it.
Hammond: Jacob knows a lot about Earth, this would be like handing over information to the Goa'uld.
Carter: To the Tok'ra!
Hammond: Are you sure there's a difference?
O'Neill: Oh yes, sir. There's a difference, believe me. I won't even pretend to understand what that is, but there is one. One minute you're talking to a Goa'uld, the next minute you're talking to a regular guy.

Carter: Dad, have you ever heard of the Stargate program?
Jacob: No. Is that one of your satellites?
Carter: I don't work with satellites, Dad. That was just a cover.
Jacob: No kiddin'. I never would've guessed.

Teal'c: Chel'Nak.
Jackson: Direct translation: "very cool".

Selmak: If I am to spend the next hundred or more years with you as my host, don't you think I should have the right to decide if I even like you?
Jacob: What's not to like? Just ask my daughter, I'm a teddy bear.
Carter: Oh yeah, a real teddy bear.

Saroosh: Selmak is a wonderful Tok'ra. She is selfless and caring. She is good company too. She has a wonderful sense of humor.
Carter: Well that's good Dad. You can sit around for hours cracking yourself up.

Selmak: I have decided I like you.
Jacob: Super.

Jacob: Apparently, I'm the oldest and wisest among us.
Carter: Oh, geez.

Notes[]

  • Tok'ra do not enter their hosts through the back of the neck, as Goa'uld parasites do. It leaves a scar that many find unsettling. Instead, they enter through the mouth, as Jolinar of Malkshur entered Captain Samantha Carter in "In the Line of Duty". The Goa'uld do not do it this way because they do not wish to remember the horror on their host's face.
  • The exterior scenes on P34-353J were filmed at the Richmond Sand Dunes.
