The Big Bang theory is the prevailing cosmological model that describes the early development of the Universe. According to the theory, the Big Bang occurred approximately 13.77 billion years ago, which is thus considered the age of the universe. After the explosion, the universe was extremely dense and hot and began to expand to the present universe.

Circa fifty million years ago, the Ancients discovered a pattern of cosmic microwave background radiation which was established before the Big Bang. The Ancients built Destiny and launched it into the universe to collect the pieces of the designs. (SGU: "The Greater Good")
