Tartarus, designated P3W-924 by the Tau'ri, is a planet that was controlled by Anubis in the Milky Way galaxy. Anubis and Thoth created the Kull in this base.
Tartarus is defended by a powerful sensor array, preventing anyone from arriving by ship unnoticed. A Stargate lies within the complex and is surrounded by a forcefield, acting as the equivalent of the Tau'ri's Iris. Tartarus was conquered by the Rebel Jaffa as a decoy but it is unknown what they did with the planet. (SG1: "Evolution, Part 2", "Threads")
Overview[]
Tartarus is a volcanic world covered in barren, desolated reaches and many low-lying chasms, perfect for hiding a Tel'tak until time to rescue infiltrators. Biting winds and scouring dust clouds roam the surface of the world, unimpeded safe for the rocky outcroppings in the North polar region - the only indication of the vast maze of tunnels that lie beneath. There is only one ocean on Tartarus, a brackish and poisonous lake near the equator, surrounded on all sides by sulfurous springs and dormant volcanoes. Rain falls rarely here in thick, dirty, ashen drops that vanish hissing into rivers of lava. The planet also possesses bitter ashen deserts. (RPG: "Living Gods: Stargate System Lords")
Behind the scenes[]
Stargate SG-1: The DVD Collection issue 48 gives an alternate address for this planet () but this is overridden by the visual evidence in Evolution, Part 1, which gives the address we currently use.
