Image for Main Page

The image on the main page is so wide that it often makes things show badly on my PCs. Since it repeats a lot, could we maybe have a thinner image? Also, is this image one from the Public Domain? -- CocoaZen 15:15, 28 Mar 2005 (EST)

Finding a PD image won't be easy, but Wikipedia has a lot of fair use images which might be more appropriate that the one here. See Wikipedia:Image:SGA-poster.jpg and Wikipedia:Image:Sg1-poster.jpg for example. The German Wikipedia disallows fair use, and has some interesting GFDL images relating to stargate. See Wikipedia:de:Bild:Spülgate a in boden.png and Wikipedia:de:Bild:Spülgate mit rampe.png. I've added the "Stargate Command" text to one of these. See Image:Sgcommand.png. I like it. It will do SGCommand

Great wiki, Stargate is awesome. Keep up the most excellent work. :)

Statistics Page

I found a wikicities statistics page for this wiki here. Should we put a link to it on the Main Page / somewhere else?--GingerM 20:57, 16 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Need protection?

Do we need to think about protecting the Stargate Wiki Main Page? I don't think so, but please: Feel free to think about it and reflect on the issue here. There hasn´t been any "bad edits" of late, so I think it's safe so far, but in time we should consider protecting the page. That is my opinion - what do y'others think? Peter R 14:33, 16 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Okey, it seems that SGCommand now has done it, without further discussion. It's OK by me. Peter R 04:41, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Possible for the future

I move this text to here, because of it's no use at the moment. Maybe in time...

Featured Articles

After seeing the current discussion on Alternate Realities, I thought we should feature some articles. So, I added a line on the main page. Because there aren't very many of us actively participating at this time, I thought we could each add one (and change your own periodically?) Later, we we are larger and have more participants, we can create something more formal, like a Feature Article program with voting. Ok? If it's not ok with you, remove the line from the main page. I won't mind. --CocoaZen 16:17, 16 Nov 2005 (UTC)

DoNotCopy

I like the note about "DoNotCopy", but do we have to have it way up? It's not that a good first impression, with a barking note like that. I'd rather have it below, as we've had it previously. Please, respond to this, SGCommand. It is you who wants it there - can we discuss it? Peter R 13:29, 18 Nov 2005 (UTC)

I originally put it at the bottom of the page. I'm fine with it either way. My preference would be to have it at the bottom, and to also post it to the user page whenever someone is copying much of their text.
Speaking of which, I'd like to recommend that whenever we get information from an external site, that we add that external site as a link on the article. This would apply to freely available content too. --CocoaZen 19:42, 18 Nov 2005 (UTC)
OK, then I'll return it to the previous edit. Peter R 21:35, 18 Nov 2005 (UTC)
As it's been moved again, instead of getting into an edit war, can't we just discuss where to put it? I prefer it at the bottom of the page myself.--GingerM 16:48, 28 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I agree. I'll invite SGCommand here. Peter R 19:21, 28 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I can't see the {{DoNotCopy}} on my home computer. Besides I think it looks nice like that, don't know about you guys. SGCommand

No it doesn't look good, IMO. It's better to have it on the bottom. As it is now, it is looking like a huge ban. This is the first thing that is seen by new visitors, and it doesn't look good. We need to reach a consensus here. Could we vote? I vote for the bottom, not where it is now. Peter R 15:55, 29 Nov 2005 (UTC)

My home computer, it looks great. The "other" computer, it looks rubbish. In the bottom means I can't see it properly. We need to make it eye cathing and friendly SGCommand
Why can't you see it properly on the bottom? I still think that the bottom is better. Peter R 10:26, 30 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I can't see it on the bottom without moving the page down a bit. How about trying it between the category section and the latest episodes box?--GingerM 15:34, 30 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I think it looks much better with a green border instead of red. Good thinking Peter.--GingerM 15:50, 30 Nov 2005 (UTC)
I've made some changes, as GingerM already seen. Is this likeable? I still want it on the bottom, but for the time being, I agree that we need to make a note about it. In time, though, I definitely want it to be in a more "obscure" place, like at the bottom. Peter R 15:55, 30 Nov 2005 (UTC)

PLEASE, can you stop editing without talking about it here, SGCommand? I'm starting to get tired of your constant editing on the Main Page without taking it up for discussion here before or after. I don't think we should keep SGCommand's apparently newest suggestion. I vote that we return the page to before that edit. Peter R 21:44, 1 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, Can you not mess about here? - SGCommand
Let's do like this. I've deleted the old Main_Page/Main_Page and made two new ones. One that's your suggestion and one that is mine: Main Page/SGCommand + Main Page/Pjotr'k. Peter R 16:31, 2 Dec 2005 (UTC)
I like Main Page/Pjotr'k more, as it seems less cramped and more open than Main Page/SGCommand.--GingerM 18:06, 2 Dec 2005 (UTC)

DoNotCopy:Decision

Pjotr'ks version (Main Page/Pjotr'k): Pjotr'k, GingerM
SGCommands version (Main Page/SGCommand): SGCommand

Any more suggestions or ideas? Since CocoaZen is away for the time being, we might as well decide here and now. As it is now, my version is "in the lead", if you really can say that with only three people saying their opinions ;) . Peter R 12:39, 4 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Well I think we'll probably get about 2 more votes in the next week. How about ending the vote on Sunday?--GingerM 16:20, 5 Dec 2005 (UTC)
I suggest that the decision will be made after votes for one week from 16:31, 2 Dec 2005 (UTC). Peter R 16:23, 5 Dec 2005 (UTC)

See below, under New main page for the rest of this discussion. Peter R 14:47, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)

New main page

We have now some new main pages as suggestion:

  • Main Page/SGCommand (alternative to the current one)
  • Main Page/SGCommand Part 2 (alternative to Main Page/GingerM)
  • Main Page/Pjotr'k (alternative to the current one)
  • Main Page/Pjotr'k 2 (withdrawn in favor of Main Page/GingerM
  • Main Page/GingerM

As I see it, we should pick one... *smile*. As I understand it, no one is especially eager to keep the current structure (Main Page, Main Page/SGCommand, Main Page/Pjotr'k) but that we should continue on the path of the other (Main Page/Pjotr'k 2, Main Page/GingerM, Main Page/SGCommand). Is that correctly understood? Speak now, or for ever hold your piece... Suggestions are welcome until wednesday. Peter R 14:47, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)

I definately like the new design more, the old one seems more plain and boring. At the moment, if we continue with the new design then it seems to be between, Main Page/SGCommand Part 2 and Main Page/GingerM, unless anybody has a new design/prefers the original version.--GingerM 17:14, 13 Dec 2005 (UTC)
I need to get a box around both the "Featured Articles" & the "Important News" on Main Page/SGCommand Part 2 before I can comment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.SGCommand
