If you don't mind

If you don't mind me asking....why do we have articles for the things that everyone on this wiki is going to recognize. I guess I understand the cities on Earth. But...come on. Do we really need an article on screwdrivers? Phoenix304 (talk) (Contribs) 17:47, April 25, 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps we should make an article about shoes, this wiki does not explain their purpose at all. Jauh0 (talk) (Contribs) 18:59, April 25, 2011 (UTC)

Hahaha. Exactly my point. And come to think of it, pie doesn't have an article. We could comment how O'Neill ate alot of it in Urgo. And we could list all the different kinds. Phoenix304 (talk) (Contribs) 19:10, April 25, 2011 (UTC)

I'm going to have to give your reason for keeping it a "meh" at most. Lol. I still feel that its unnecessary as episode plots should cover this fact. We don't have an article on O'Neill's fishing rods do we? Cuz they seem to have more plot significance than a screwdriver. Phoenix304 (talk) (Contribs) 00:22, April 26, 2011 (UTC)

Quite honestly, I don't mind having articles on anything featured in an official Stargate source. We already have articles for Evian and 5th Avenue, for example, simply because they appeared on screen. While you may not find it useful, someone else clearly did or they wouldn't have added the articles. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 00:25, April 26, 2011 (UTC)
...I suppose that's fair. While I may be in favor of its deletion, you are a moderator and I respect the opinion of the wiki. And you have a fair point, if we only mentioned plot necessary items, it would be a much smaller wiki. Phoenix304 (talk) (Contribs) 00:34, April 26, 2011 (UTC)
I don't mind thar someone wasted their life creating this article, I'm just saying that it's completely unnecessary. Jauh0 (talk) (Contribs) 14:02, April 26, 2011 (UTC)
That was my point. And while I'm not pushing for its deletion anymore, I would like to point out the explosion of other pages (like rat, mouse, pidgeon, whale, etc.) that showed up today. Phoenix304 (talk) (Contribs) 16:32, April 26, 2011 (UTC)
Yes that was me. I updated those pages for a more "higher quality". Although I should point out that all of those pages already existed, and since we canˈt delete these trivial pages, the least we can do is make them good enough for this otherwise high quality wiki. It is quite saddening to see so many poorly made and abandoned pages here, and as I said, if we canˈt delete them, the only alternative is to make them good enough for our beloved Stargate Wiki. —Uriel718 (talk) (Contribs) 20:33, April 26, 2011 (UTC)
I should also point out that I myself do not create trivial articles nor do I support making them. That said once an article has been created, and aproved of by veteran users and/or admins, it should be updated to a more acceptable state. If this is not done, than a "stub" marker will placed on the article, and the burden of updating the page falls to someone else. Hence there can only be two kinds of pages on this wiki: Those that are already acceptably "finished", and those that need to be "finished". Any unfinished or abandoned pages should either be finished or deleted. —Uriel718 (talk) (Contribs) 20:52, April 26, 2011 (UTC)
there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this article, or any other "trivial" ones. episode plots wouldn't tie together all the episodes in which a screwdriver was used. what do you define as "unnecessary"? the raison d'etre of the wiki itself is to provide information on everything related to stargate. It seems I was misunderstood, no problem. What I meant was that there are absolutely no "unnecessary" pages on this wiki, except those that are marked for deletion. Once a page has been accepted to this wiki, it becomes as important as the P90 page, for example. The only pages that have something fundamentally wrong about them, in my opinion, are those that are left with nothing but a stub mark, and they should be updated. And as I proved with this article, you can write a decent article even about a screwdriver, of all things.—Uriel718 (talk) (Contribs) 09:55, April 27, 2011 (UTC)
