It says that the Plasma beams replaced the railguns on the page, didnt the beams replace the missiles, primarily?. The missiles were the main weapons of the ship, they just proved to be extremely inefective agains the wraith because the wraith scattered fighters to defend against the missiles and cut them all down prior to the naquadah enhanced nuclear warheads reaching the hive ship. The Rail guns were just the weapons the humans had that actually worked against the Wraith. Also, initially when they introduced the rail guns, tjhey called them point defence weapons for the prometheus, which means they are for defence against fighters, missiles, and maybe extra damage on other capital ships, but primarily for fighter/missile defence.[[Special:Contributions/74.129.75.153|74.129.75.153]] 15:16, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

''A'': Nope. Not a chance any time soon. The equipment to use such weapons, although basic and theoretically studied, doesn't exist right now. The capacitors needed to power a gauss or railgun has to be the size of a barn or a house and that's just for one cannon. Let's give these weapons some credit. They do some damage... wraith ships are just so damn massive. Ori shields are impenetrable by almost every known type of weapon (save Asgard beams and possibly drones). The Odyssey wasn't fully battle-ready in Off The Grid and distributed its fire between THREE Ha'taks, which would reduce their effectiveness. In that case, Odyssey merely severed as a distraction to keep the Ha'taks from destroying Ba'al's ship. In the defense of Icarus Base, we never really saw them being used except for five seconds. They probably worked well against gliders as they did against darts. It's not that they're ineffective against unshielded ships... it was the evasive maneuvers such smaller craft enact that makes them hard to destroy... not the weapons in question. Railguns are pretty powerful considered... they just have mainly been shown in use against the Wraith... and even the Ancients had a heck of a time destroying Wraith ships. —Anubis 10545 (talk) (Contribs) 08:30, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

the wraith ships suck though —ASDF1239 DISCUSSION 08:53, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
The Ancients didn't have any trouble destroying wraith ships at all, one ZPM powered warship could cut through fleets of hive ships. It's just that there were so darned many Wraith :D Sman789 (talk) (Contribs) 12:12, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
