The Svoriin, native to the planet of the same name, were a race of Humans who lived in peace for many years thanks to being under the protection of the Protected Planets Treaty. After being brought to their planet by the Asgard, the Svoriin built up a level of technology which would rival that of Earth in the late 20th century, but soon after they started using the Stargate a disaster struck their planet. While exploring a planet they had named Skaald, an insect stung one of their soldiers. After they brought this individual back to Svoriin, the bugs hatched from inside the infected man and were able to do the same and kill basically all of the population on the planet. (SG1: "Bane")
