Naquadah Generator Mark I.jpg

Naquadah generators are advanced reactor units that produce tremendous amounts of clean energy from small amounts of refined Naquadah. They were originally developed by the Orbanians but were later adapted and further developed by the Tau'ri. They have since been used to power many technologies from Earth, with several variants having been created as a result of continuing advances in the technology.

The naquadah reactor was originally developed by the Orbanian Merrin after having studied the technology for over ten years. This research ultimately resulted in a reactor module capable of producing energy from relatively small amounts of naquadah. The device itself was composed of a dark-colored metallic housing in the shape of a small rectangular prism, approximately 12 inches long with side dimensions of approximately 6 by 6 inches. This casing provides shielding against the radiation emitted by the device in its use. A dark blue light emanated from the center of the device when active. Two known components of the reactor are the carocev (a heating element) and the Fodinaire.

The first prototype naquadah reactor constructed by the Tau'ri was created in 1999 by reverse engineering the Orbanian device using materials native to Earth. This device would appear, overall, visually similar to the inner workings of the Orbanian device, with a much more form-fitting outer casing of lead being used to shield against radiation, in lieu of the prism design of the original device. However, overall the device appeared to be much bulkier while still maintaining full functionality. (Read more...)

About Stargate
Stargate DVD poster.jpg

Stargate is a military science fiction franchise, initially conceived by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. The film that began the franchise was simply titled Stargate. Theatrically released on October 28, 1994 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Carolco, it became a worldwide hit, grossing nearly $200 million (USD) worldwide. Three years later, Canadian Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner created a television series entitled Stargate SG-1 as a sequel for the film. Stargate SG-1 briefly held the record for the longest-running North American science fiction show in history with a total of ten seasons and 214 episodes. This series would set the scene for Stargate's ongoing legacy.

In 2004, Stargate SG-1's first spin-off series, entitled Stargate: Atlantis, was released. Stargate: Atlantis concluded January 9, 2009 after five seasons and 100 episodes. A second Stargate spin-off series, entitled Stargate Universe, began airing on October 2, 2009 and concluded after 2 seasons. As of May 9, 2011, with the series finale of Stargate Universe, no new episodes of the Stargate franchise are planned for production, leaving the franchise with a total of 354 canon episodes. However, On May 29, 2014, Warner Brothers and MGM announced plans to reboot the Stargate franchise in the form in a new feature film trilogy. (Read more...)
