Stargate is a 1994 matching puzzle game developed by Probe Entertainment and published by Acclaim. It is available on the Nintendo Game Boy and Sega Game Gear. It is based on the original Stargate film.

Publisher Summary[]

Journeying a million light years from Earth is the easy part; getting back is a totally different story. Based on the film Stargate, the game sends you to a distant world to unlock the mystery of the Stargate. Discover out of this world 3D graphics as you go head to head against the evil pharaoh, Ra. Try to crack a series of intergalactic mysteries and get back home to safety. With massive levels and a perfect blend of strategy and action, Stargate is addicting fun for gamers of all tastes. Play alone or challenge a friend to a match. Accept the challenge and discover the secret beyond the Stargate.

Gameplay[]

In this game, players drop tiles into a Stargate, and then try to stack three identical symbols. By doing so, those tiles are cleared. Mismatched tiles build higher stacks, and the player loses if the tiles reach the top of the gate. Also on the screen is a seven-symbol Stargate address. The stack will be cleared once three copies of a symbol appear in the address and count toward the completion of the address.[1]

Skill Mode[]

In Skill Mode, the player attempts to complete as many addresses as possible without being overwhelmed. As addresses are completed, the speed increases.[1]

Battle Mode[]

In Battle Mode, any stacks you clear are sent through the Stargate and appear on your opponent's side. In addition, you and your opponent have a height level meter that shows how close you are to overflowing their gates. Depending on your strategy, you may win by outlasting your opponent (while sending complete stacks through the Stargate to make things more difficult for them) or by being the first to complete the address. This mode can be played against a computer, or against a second player connected with a link cable.[1]
