Stargate is a 1994 platform game developed by Probe Entertainment and published by Acclaim. It is available on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Sega Genesis, also known as the Mega Drive. Based on the original Stargate film, it follows Colonel Jack O'Neil as he tries to free the slaves of Abydos, defeat Ra, and get his team back to Earth.
Publisher Summary[]
Travel through the StarGate to an intergalactic dimension of non-stop action, danger and adventure! Face a hostile and unknown world in over 30 incredible missions. From the village of Nagada to Ra's pyramid spacecraft, you're armed with an arsenal of weapons and an incredible alien fire power. It's up to you to defeat the evil ruler Ra and unlock the mystery of the StarGate! It will take you a million light years from home... but can you find your way back?
Gameplay[]
In the game, the player controls Colonel Jack O'Neil, whose first objective is to recover supplies. Additionally, he must locate other teammates, including Dr. Daniel Jackson. Once regrouped, O'Neil must lead the attack on Ra and escape back to Earth before the nuclear bomb can be unleashed on Abydos.[1]
A variety of enemies can be found throughout the game, from scarab beetles to Horus Guards. The game consists of three boss encounters: two encounters with Anubis, and a final confrontation with Ra. Even if the player defeats Ra, they will lose the game if they have not collected all seven bomb pieces and seven hieroglyphs.[1]
The player is equipped with an infinite supply of ammunition for a machine gun. Pickup items like rapid fire, wide fire, ammunition strength, and gun coolant can be used to temporarily upgrade this gun. Furthermore, the player can also pick and hold up to 99 standard grenades in addition to the more powerful alien grenades.[1]
Trivia[]
- The game was featured on the cover of the April 1995 issue of Nintendo Power.[2]
