Biography[]

2004[]

Underground

Sora first met with the First Atlantis Reconnaissance Team in 2004 during their visit to Genii homeworld. She, as did her fellow Genii, pretended to be a peaceful farmer, hiding the true level of Genii technology. Sora had known Teyla Emmagan all her life. Despite this friendship, Sora held Teyla responsible for her father's, Tyrus', death, which occurred shortly after this encounter when Teyla was forced to leave Tyrus behind on a mission to a Wraith Hive ship. (SGA: "Underground")

Some time later Sora is shown to be practicing with staff in the Underground Bunker of Genii homeworld. She and two other Genii are facing off against an unarmed middle-aged man, who after a short combat disarms all his opponents and is later revealed to be Acastus Kolya.

She was also a member of Commander Acastus Kolya's strike force during the raid on Atlantis. It is here that she shows a level of compassion for the soldiers Kolya killed recklessly in the Stargate Operations. She claimed that they could have been overpowered opposed to killed straight off. Her reason for such a statement was that she wanted the "Atlanteans" to be co-operative. She later showed distressed concern when Kolya threatened Major John Sheppard with physical harm. While occupying Atlantis, she battled Teyla Emmagan in a knife fight in the Jumper bay, using her father's knife. Teyla eventually managed to disarm Sora of the knife. At this point Sora asked for the feud to be ended once and for all, implying Teyla to kill her; instead Teyla threw the knife to the ground, severing the feud and showing an end to the conflict. Sora's change of heart enabled her to assist a wounded Dr. Carson Beckett to safety. She was then taken prisoner, Dr. Elizabeth Weir optimistically stating that perhaps she could be used in trade with the Genii in the future in order to patch up relations between the two cultures. (SGA: "The Storm", "The Eye")

2005[]

After encountering Acastus Kolya again, Dr. Rodney McKay asked him if he wanted Sora back. Kolya tells McKay that Sora knew what she was getting herself into, more than most of the men in the strike force and the Genii don't negotiate with terrorists. (SGA: "The Brotherhood")

She was held for three months before eventually being released some point after the assault on Sgt. Bates. During this time, Sora overheard the guards talking about several things, including Teyla Emmagan's Wraithkin abilities. (SGA: "The Lost")

2009[]

When Atlantis returns to the Pegasus Galaxy after six months of being absent, Sora, who has been promoted to the rank of Captain, informs Ladon Radim and Ambrus Tol. Sora is disgruntled when Ladon refuses to engage with the Lanteans and tells him that there has to be a reckoning with Atlantis at some point. However, Ladon refuses, not wanting to antagonize Atlantis yet and threatens to dismiss Sora from his service if she doesn't heed his wishes. Knowing if she is fired she will only have her looks and military training to fall back on, neither of which will do her any good with her temperament, Sora reluctantly concedes to Ladon's wishes, but he doesn't entirely trust her though he tells her that their salvage missions will continue. Ladon also orders Sora to avoid the Lanteans completely if she ends up on the same planet as them and to let go of her grudge towards Teyla Emmagan. While Ladon considers sending someone he trusts to keep an eye on her, he realizes she will see through it and it won't work.

Days later, Sora leads a relief mission to Wland where Doctors Jennifer Keller and Carson Beckett are helping the locals after a devastating Wraith attack. Upon hearing of the Genii's arrival, Beckett sends Keller to get help from Atlantis, being cautious about the Genii's appearance. Upon seeing Beckett, Sora demands to know where his team is and has her men search the compound for anyone else and Beckett's supplies. Sora then decides to take Beckett's supplies and Beckett with them when they leave in defiance of Ladon's orders as she sees them useful. Shortly afterwards, Lt. Colonel John Sheppard arrives with Doctor Rodney McKay and a team of Marines and they demand of Sora the release of Beckett and the supplies. Sora refuses to listen, intending to take Beckett and hiding behind some crates so no one can get a clear shot at her. Instead, Sora demands that they call Teyla there and she'll trade Beckett for Teyla and if they refuse, she'll kill Beckett. As the stand-off heats up, Sora makes the mistake of emerging into the open to threaten Beckett and Ronon Dex stuns her with his blaster, having intended to kill her initially but having changed his mind as she was too close to Beckett. However, Tass is able to snag Beckett before he can get away and a few of Sora's men are left in too good of cover to get to. One of her men offers a new deal that the Atlantis team takes: the Genii will let Beckett go and the team will allow the Genii to take the supplies. While the two sides depart each other peacefully, Ronon regrets not killing Sora when he had the chance.

After returning to her homeworld, Sora turns the supplies over to Colonel Faber, but he reports her actions. A furious Ladon has Sora arrested and stripped of her rank. Though Sora got supplies the Genii needed, Ladon returns them all to Atlantis as he is unwilling to antagonize them at that moment and informs them that Sora will stand trial. Sheppard is surprised that Ladon didn't kill Sora for her actions but Teyla believes he couldn't due to the large amount of influence her father had possessed. Ladon later assures Beckett that Sora has been dismissed from the Genii Army for her rogue actions. (SGA: "Legacy: Homecoming", "The Lost")

Despite Ladon's assurances, Sora is not dismissed from the military due to the political influence of her lover Colonel Faber. Instead, Ladon puts her in charge of the Genii's efforts on Sateda to get any valuable Ancient artifacts they can find from the Satedan City Museum. Both Ronon and Sheppard suspect that Sora was given this post to get her out of the way by sticking her somewhere where she could do something useful but not cause any trouble.

While exploring the museum, Doctors Radek Zelenka and William Lynn encounter Genii forces working for Sora while Ronon and Teyla spot her in the Genii's nearby camp, causing the expedition members to stop their efforts to get all of the titanium needed to build a mechanical iris for the Atlantis Stargate. Upon being confronted by Ronon, Ushan Cai admits that the Genii have effectively controlled Sateda for the better part of six months though Sora has only recently begun digging through the museum. Cai appeals to the expedition to throw Sora and the other Genii off of Sateda, but Sheppard is unwilling to spare the military manpower before agreeing to diplomatic efforts after learning of a possible ZPM in the museum.

After learning of the expedition's presence on Sateda, Ladon orders Sora and her men to remain in their camp, much to her frustration as she is impatient to get the Ancient artifacts in the museum. Sora is further incensed to learn that Ladon intends to negotiate with the Satedans and the expedition for the artifacts. During the negotiations, Sora is visibly angry, badly hiding it and tries to convince Cai to give the Genii what they want and not to trust the Atlantis expedition, citing the destruction the expedition has caused since their arrival in the Pegasus Galaxy. However, Cai refuses to listen to Sora, trusting the expedition far more than the Genii as the expedition came to trade for what they wanted instead of showing up with guns and demanding it.

Sora later heads to a Genii observation post, secretly trailed by Teyla and Corporal Kneeland after Teyla recognizes that Sora is too dangerous to be left unobserved. Unknown to Sora, Ladon has grown tired of the fact that she is too much of a loose canon to be trusted and has set up a trap to kill her with Faber's recent engagement removing any protection Sora had from him. Explosives laid by the Genii cause the post to collapse, apparently rubble giving way and drop Sora into a basement layered with more explosives designed to go off and kill her when she falls in. However, Sora manages to hang onto a beam and is found by Teyla and Kneeland who witnessed the collapse of the observation post. Kneeland spots the explosives in the cellar and the three realize what has really happened with Sora reluctantly allowing Teyla and Kneeland to rescue her. While Sora initially thinks the Atlantis expedition tried to kill her, Teyla is able to convince Sora that it was Ladon, not the expedition. Teyla suggests that they play it off as an unfortunate building collapse and Sora get her revenge on Ladon by surviving to continue to be a thorn in his foot. Seeing the wisdom in Teyla's words and more angry at Ladon than Teyla, Sora agrees and is helped back to camp by Kneeland.

Upon their return, Teyla announces to everybody Sora's "unfortunate accident" and has her checked out by an Atlantis medic to prevent "misunderstandings". While Sora starts to object, she realizes the point of Teyla's actions and agrees and is escorted to a medic by Kneeland and Ladon's aid Ambrus Tol. Realizing what Ladon tried to do, Sheppard confronts Ladon over Sora's attempted murder and points out that it looks bad that Ladon tried to kill the officer that was running a secret operation before she got caught. Sheppard leverages the attempt on Sora's life to force Ladon to make a deal with the Satedans to trade fairly for what the Genii want, promising to not look too closely into what Ladon might have to hide by assassinating Sora in exchange. (SGA: "Allegiance")

In chronological order:

Behind the scenes[]

  • During filming of "The Siege, Part 2", Sora was traded for a Genii nuclear weapon. The scene was cut due to time constraints, however, so Sora's status is unknown.
  • Although unlikely to be canon, Erin Chambers commented in an interview that she formed a little backstory for her character - Sora. The backstory includes that Sora is 20 years old and that her mother died when she was young; the reason for her close relationship with her father is because of this. Her weakness lies in that she is too emotional. This is definitely seen when confronting Kolya's ethics and when she ends the feud with Teyla. Chambers even claims this is why she lost her fight with Teyla.[3]
