Solar power refers to the utilization of the radiant energy from a star or stars. Solar power refers more specifically to the conversion of sunlight into electricity by photovoltaics or concentrating solar thermal devices.
Solar panels[]
- "...which would come in very handy if we were trying to power a couple of electric golf carts."

Tau'ri outposts are almost always equipped with solar power generators. Even after the development of naquadah generators, the Tau'ri continues using solar panels. Solar panels provide very little power when compared to naquadah generators, but they do provide sufficient power for running Tau'ri computers and other such technologies. Solar panels are also used by many people on Earth. (SG1: "Spirits", "One False Step", "Prodigy", "Allegiance", "Fallen", "Enemy Mine")
Solar power is also used by other races in both the Milky way and Pegasus galaxies, such as the Pilations. (SGA: "The Lost Boys")
Atlantis is capable of being powered by solar power via solar cells placed around the city. These solar cells, along with a Mark XII naquadah generator were used to power the city's shield, Stasis pod, and Long range sensors in an alternate timeline when the sun became a red giant.(SGA: "The Last Man")
People of Novus also used them. At least one colony was powered by them and the fallout bunker was powered by a combination of solar, geothermal and wind power.(SGU: "Common Descent", "Epilogue")
Destiny and Seed Ships[]
- "The ship is powered by the stars themselves. Solar powered, quite literally."
- ―Nicholas Rush[src]
Destiny and the Seed ships sent ahead of it use a unique form of solar power. Rather than absorbing the radiant energy, the ships flying into the outer portion of the star and directly harvest its abundant matter/energy via Ancient solar power collectors that facilitate (star lifting/sun scooping). The ships' energy shields protect the given ship from the harsh conditions of the star, allowing it to refuel undamaged. (SGU: "Light", "Resurgence")
