Simarkan attire

Simarkan attire are articles of clothing worn by the inhabitants of the planet Simarka. Some of their garments include dresses, headdresses and face coverings.

The Simarkans have old laws that dictate that women cover their faces. They also can't wear men's clothes. Breaking these rules results in death. These laws, among others, were originally made to protect and hide women from demons, though it remained long after the demons were gone as it gave men power over women. (SG1: "Emancipation")

Shavadai women were free of these rules in 1997.^[1] However, the freedom was short-lived, as after the death of Chieftain Moughal, his son Abu reverted everything back to how it was for the women.^[2] (SG1: "Emancipation", "Do No Harm")

When SG-1 visited Simarka in 1997, Captain Sam Carter suggested leaving but Dr. Daniel Jackson brushed this aside, saying they'd be okay as long as they learn their customs. Due to staying, Sam was forced to dress in proper Simarkan attire, which Colonel Jack O'Neill teased her on. Carter found their dress restrictive, stating she couldn't move or walk in it. She also didn't want to wear the embroidered face covering.

When Abu saw her dressed, he stated she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He later kidnapped her in hopes of trading her to Turghan for his daughter Nya. However, she was to be married to the desert warlord Chimakka. Because of this, Turghan instead gave him three hundred weights of gold for Carter. (SG1: "Emancipation")
