(additional comment) I'm not trying to get rid of all the images. I think that used properly they can add a lot to the site, but I'd like to set it up so that we don't have to mangle the site later, if we have to get rid of all the images. And I don't want to expose Wikicities to any losing lawsuits. Just because something is on the web, does not mean that anyone can use it without giving proper credit. --[[User:CocoaZen|CocoaZen]] 12:13, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Use of Others' Images

In additon to the material on this Stargate copyrights page, the wikicities:copyrights page states, "GFDL or public domain images are strongly preferred on Wikicities. Copyright-violating images are subject to deletion. Copyright information must be added to the image description page of every uploaded image." (my emphasis)

It doesn't say anything about "fair use", but fair use is usually private use. I admit that I am still having trouble with where the lines are here, but it seems to me that the massive use of images from other copyrighted sites may be a problem. Since I'm not sure, I haven't deleted the images yet.

However, even if these images are ok, they should give the information about their source. Are they public domain or who has the copyright, and have they authorized this use? --CocoaZen 11:53, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
