Hey, I'm curious if anyone here can create screencaps. MA's got an awesome lot of screencaps from the various ST series, and I'd love to maybe team up with someone writing copy to go with episodes among other things, but I can't get screencaps, so if someone's interested in doing this, please feel free to say so and I'll put in my share of effort in ways that I can, as well. :-) Mdh 03:44, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

:Can we use them as legal pictures? Please look at the sub-discussion on Copyright issues (see link on the top of this page). Peter R 06:40, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

::Memory Alpha says yes, so long as we have a few disclaimers on the image's info page. Check out the Images and Other Media section in there. If I recall correctly, the exact wording of the law is something along the lines of "low resolution, un-modified, still images from the work, provided the owner of said work is credited and no ownership of said work is claimed" or somesuch to that effect, is fair use. I can look up the exact wording, but I'm pretty sure that's the gist of it. Also, I could hack up a simple template for people to include on the image info pages for images from SG1/SGA episodes stating ownership, etc. Mdh 04:20, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

::Wikipedia actually has such a template for dealing with screen captures from episodes/films/etc. You can view it here. It also explains legal justification for using such screenshots, and confirms that it is in fact fair use. :-) Mdh 04:27, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

:Please, could you transfer this discussion to the sub-discussion on Copyright. We've already covered some of this, and it's better to keep it at one place. Peter R 07:09, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello again Stargate Wikia, and oh my, all of my templates broke! The most prolific of them, cite, has uglified enormous numbers of templates I made. I am in the process of fixing them, and cite is already fixed. The reason for the problem is the new ParserFuction style (read my complaint to the admins here) and the functions are working again, but with a # at the beginning. Unfortunately, the change was not backwards-compatible, so I have been dashing through my contribs, trying to fix every template I ever made. Who knew that I could cause so much trouble by being away from the Stargate Wikia for a month! (By the way, I have been at the Myst Wikia - my other great love in life.) —Marco Polo 16:13, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

An IRC channel would be a neat way for us to meet and chat in real-time. All you've gotta do is log on to freenode... an admin should probably take care of registering the channel, which I can help with if you'd like. I suggest freenode as it is generally free of the problems of spam and takeovers common in some networks, and also hosts channels for the mediawiki software, the memory-alpha editors crew, and several othe interrelated topics which SG wiki editors may also enjoy participating in. To sum up what IRC is, it is a real-time chat medium for groups of people. Unlike instant messenger services, it is entirely free, and does not require registration or the submission of personal details at any time. Nick name and channel name registration are available - nick name registration is wholly optional, and I would suggest that an admin take the time to register any channel we may wish to create. This allows them to retrieve ops status in case no op exists.

My favorite IRC client is XChat. It's free for UNIX users, and there are plenty of free and 100% legal windows binaries available also, as it is [GPL software. For Windows users, mIRC is also a popular client, but is not free. For UNIX users who desire a curses-based interface (XChat uses GTK2+), I would suggest irssi. Once in Xchat, or whatever client you prefer, log on to the freenode network via the host chat.freenode.net and the standard TCP port 6667. We can discuss here what the channel name should be, and I can check if any are already taken, though it's doubtful.

Episode names when there is double-episodes

(Discussion originated at User talk:Pjotr'k)

You don't have to take my suggestions, but did you see the suggestion that multi-part episodes might just go to the base name rather than X, part1 and X, part2?

Yes, I saw it, but where? I can't remember. My thoughts are that that of course is a possible way. However, if the double-episode was broadcasted as seperate episodes in a row (although they are called the same with the number extension), I have thought that we should count it as two episodes here. Any thoughts about that? Should I consider anything else, then please let me know. We must decide now, I think, before we've made a lot of episode articles. Peter R 10:23, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Policy:Categorizing races

When there is a lot about one single race (i.e. Ancients) I have put those articles under a seperate Category (i.e. Category:Ancients) and then I put that category as a sub-category to Category:Races. In this way you can more easily follow the path and get a quick overview. Please feel free to comment here. Peter R 04:45, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Suggestion for episode infobox

I've made a new suggestion for an episode info box, you can see it at "Ripple Effect". It's based on a similar thing at the Lost wikicity. I'm trying to get the template SG1-9 to be put in that template as well, or SG1-1/2/3... as well for that matter. I can't seem to get it to work, so if someone else have a great idea, be my guest to try fixing it. If we in time would have episode images as well, then this new template would look great! Peter R 06:17, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

WikiRank

Template:Five What does everyone fhink of making a 'WikiRank' system for some of the articles (like episodes)? We could set up a voting system and stuff, and display these lovely templates (five, as in five-star hotel). I could use help with choosing the right colors for the background, though, and the 1/2 indicator, a stargate in mid-activation, is basically pure white, which means that on a white background, there is no apparent difference between 1/2 and 0 indicators. Any ideas for the background and/or alternate 1/2 pic and/or just plain critique of the system would be helpful.

Also, can we rename the 'Community Portal'? I mean, with a name like that, it begs customization on a Stargate Wiki. I can't think of any good names but I'm sure they are out there. —Marco Polo 21:09, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

I think it is still too early. Our site isn't good enough yet. We are also not that many that works here, so I believe we should wait. Peter R 08:08, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
The ranking thing could be neat to help identify articles in need of real help. It's one thing to have a stub with minimal/very basic info, another to have pretty much nothing. As time permits, I'm trying to add basic info to the "pretty much nothing" articles as I find them during normal browsing.  :-) Mdh 04:20, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Need help with new episodes!!!

I can't manage creating full pages of all the new episdoes. There must be someone else out there, that has seen the episode and therefore can make some additions? The current episodes are listed on the Main Page. I have fixed the Atlantis 3.01 (which, of course, can be filled with more info), but SG-1 needs serious effort. Anything you can do, small or big, are soooo welcome. Peter R 10:32, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Battlestar Wiki

Battlestar Wiki has a friends system, where if a website displays the Battlestar wiki thumb, they will show a thumb of that website. I think this would make sense for this wiki, as a lot of Stargate fans would also be BSG fans, and vise-versa. Having the BSG wiki link here could be quite beneficial, as it has a large community.--Undc23 03:21, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't see the point. Can you explain more on this? Peter R 06:33, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
All it is is a "you link to them, they link to you"-type deal. Just to raise awareness of this wiki, to gain more contributers - it doesn't seem like many people are editing this wiki at the moment, which is a pity. Not much else to explain. Just that BSG wiki links to memory-alpha.org, wikipedia, and gateworld.net, and it would be good to see this wiki there too. Also, some people here might be interested in a BSG wiki, so it seems to me like a win-win situation.--Undc23 06:48, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
