Rya'c of Chulak is a Jaffa and the son of Teal'c of Chulak and his late wife, Drey'auc of the Cord'ai Plains.

Biography

1997

After Teal'c defected to Earth, Rya'c and his mother were forced to live as pariahs. At 12, Drey'auc begged the priests to give her son a Prim'ta, but Teal'c interrupted the ceremony, since he didn't want his son to have a symbiote. Without a Goa'uld to provide an immune system, Rya'c developed scarlet fever, until finally Teal'c gave him his own symbiote to save him. He remained on Chulak, under the care of Bra'tac. (SG1: "Bloodlines")

1998

Afterwards, Drey'auc married Fro'tak to give her son a better life. Apophis captured Rya'c, and by the time Teal'c returned, Apophis had brainwashed him into publicly denouncing his father. Because of something he said, Teal'c believed his son was only playing along. SG-1 rescued him and brought him and Drey'auc back to Earth. Once there, however, they discovered Rya'c really was brainwashed, and conditioned to kill himself and everyone on Earth with special bioweapons stored in false teeth, to be released once he was outside Cheyenne Mountain. The false teeth were removed, and the boy's body was examined for other weapons. Rya'c was imprisoned in an attempt to undo the brainwashing. Unfortunately, Teal'c had to resort to electro-convulsive therapy, by shooting Rya'c with a Zat'nik'tel, to break the conditioning. Rya'c went to live with his mother in the Land of Light after that. (SG1: "Family")

2002

Rya'c grew up under the tutelage of Bra'tac, who taught him the ways of the Jaffa. He was very angry at his father after Drey'auc died, and Teal'c allowed him to go on a mission to save Earth from Anubis. After Teal'c and Bra'tac were captured, he stole a Death Glider and destroyed Anubis' Stargate destroyer allowing Teal'c and Bra'tac to escape. (SG1: "Redemption, Part 1", "Redemption, Part 2")

2003

He was captured when he went with Bra'tac to Erebus, a Jaffa penal colony, to recruit more allies for the Jaffa Rebellion. They were forced into hard labor. While ascended, Dr. Daniel Jackson saw them and the memory came back to him after he descended. SG-1 went to rescue them, but the rescue attempt was unsuccessful. Teal'c was captured and hurt, and Rya'c had to face the fact his father was vulnerable. Rya'c helped spread the word among the prisoners to revolt and the second rescue attempt was successful. (SG1: "Orpheus")

2004

On a trip to Hak'tyl with Teal'c and Bra'tac to try to convince the female Jaffa to join the Jaffa Rebellion, he fell in love with Kar'yn. Even though Teal'c was against the union at first, thinking they were both too young, Rya'c went along with his plans and the wedding finally took place with Teal'c's blessing. (SG1: "Sacrifices")

Alternate realities

Alternate timelines

  • In an alternate timeline created when SG-1 were sent a century into the future, Rya'c became the First Prime to the Goa'uld Hecate (who took Doctor Janet Fraiser as a host) and acted on Earth as a resistance leader under the name 'Dix', in homage to Colonel David Dixon, who was one of the last leaders of humanity's resistance to the Goa'uld occupation. He was initially hostile to the returned SG-1, but after they were able to convince Rya'c that SG-1 had been sent into the future by the manipulations of Hecate, Rya'c rallied the Jaffa to oppose Hecate, acknowledging that his father had never intended to abandon them. (Stargate SG-1: Apocalypse)
  • In an alternate timeline accidentally created by SG-1, his parents Teal'c and Drey'auc never married, although they did know each other. Consequently, he was never born. While Teal'c told Daniel Jackson that he would have considered it an honour to have been Drey'auc's husband, he would have instead proposed to Shan'auc had she not become a temple priestess. When the alternate Teal'c saw the video recording of his original self, he was clearly deeply affected by the 'original' Teal'c reporting that he had a son who was now married and a strong leader of the Jaffa nation. (Stargate SG-1: Moebius Squared)
  • In another alternate timeline created by Ba'al in 1939, Teal'c likewise married Drey'auc and had a son named Rya'c. The Cameron Mitchell of the proper timeline used this piece of information to convince Teal'c that they had known each other before history had been altered. (Stargate: Continuum)
