A Ring is a type of jewelry. They could be worn ornamentally or have a purpose to signify something, such as for being married or engaged. They also may have a technological purpose. A ring is typically worn around the wearer's finger.
History[]
In Tau'ri cultures, rings can be used to ask for one's hand in marriage and signify that they are married to someone. (SG1: "The Road Not Taken", SGA: "Quarantine")

Wraith also wear rings. When the Atlantis expedition first came to the Pegasus Galaxy, Dr. Carson Beckett observed a dismembered feeding hand, which wore finger cots and a ring was on its thumb. The drone that held down Major John Sheppard also wore a ring on their thumb. (SGA: "Rising")
Captain Sam Carter was once engaged to Captain Jonas Hanson, but she ended it and gave him back the ring. (SG1: "The First Commandment")
In 2004, Pete Shanahan proposed to Lt. Colonel Carter. Sam initially took the ring box but didn't say yes or no for two weeks as she thought about it. She ended up saying yes but later had second thoughts and ended their relationship in 2005. (SG1: "Affinity", "Threads")
In 2008, Dr. Rodney McKay bought a ring to propose to Katie Brown with, however, after the quarantine incident, Rodney came to the conclusion that he was rushing things. This was confused for a breakup and their relationship ended. (SGA: "Quarantine", "Trio")
Alternate realities[]

In an alternate reality where the Stargate Program became public knowledge, Lt. Colonel Sam Carter noticed pictures of their Sam Carter that wore a wedding ring in them. She asked Major Evan Lorne about it and he presumed the photo she showed him must have been taken before her divorce to Rodney McKay. (SG1: "The Road Not Taken")

In a reality where John Sheppard was a detective, Rodney McKay wore a wedding ring. He didn't mention who he was married to. (SGA: "Vegas")
