Patrick Sheppard was Dave and John Sheppard's father.
Biography
Background information
Patrick was a wealthy industrialist and had houses all across the United States. He had already planned John's life by the time the boy was fourteen years old, despite him having other ideas of his own. They both argued and this put a great strain on their relationship. After John was disrespectful to his new wife, Patrick decided to stop paying for his son's schooling. With the help of Melissa Hocken, John came up with a plan to get an ROTC scholarship so he could finish schooling, but was forced to make up with Patrick in order to have his father cover the last semester before the scholarship would take effect. Eventually they parted ways and never saw each other again. However, Patrick regretted the split ever since, and wanted to get closer to John, but couldn't. (SGA: "Outcast")
2008
At the beginning of 2008, he died of a heart attack, aged 69. After learning of his death, John attended his father's funeral where Dave accused John of only wanting to be there to challenge Patrick's will with the implication that John was left out of it or at least John would've expected to be. When John told his brother that he'd stayed away so long because he thought that Patrick wanted it that way, Dave revealed Patrick's regrets to him to John's shock and sadness. (SGA: "Outcast")
