Odin was one of the main Asgard lords along with Thor, Freyr, and Aesir.
Biography[]
Background information[]
Before he left Asgard, Odin was Thor's teacher, evoking their mythological relationship as father and son.
When the Goa'uld Forseti enslaved the Viking people of Earth, Odin cast him away from the Viking lands.(SG1: "The DVD Collection 10")
On Valhalla[]
At some point, Odin began conducting private research on the planet Valhalla, from his ship, Yggdrasil, to find a way around the Asgard's clone degeneration problem. He took mental scans of various Vikings as they were on the verge of death (with their permission) and created a series of elaborate projections that would allow them to interact in projected bodies, reliving various battles with upgraded technology over and over. However, the projection was unable to expand very far, limiting its value as a potential alternative means of immortality. With only his own DNA to use as a template, Odin's genetic structure broke down faster than with the average Asgard; by the twenty-first century, Odin was basically blind in one eye and needed external support to keep his body going.
SG1-1's arrival[]
When SG-1 came to Valhalla, he revealed that the power supply for his projection unit was running down, and he was further handicapped because Surtr, one of the minds in the projection, had come to resent what he had become and sought to take control of the system himself.
During several days, Surtur grew more and more powerful, becoming a real giant. His thirst or revenge was unstoppable, and even with the SCG-1's help, Odin cannot stop him, only delay his attacks. Even when using a Naquadria cell as bomb, Surtur survived. He was about to kill Odin when Jonas Quinn suggested he better absorb him into his generator, which Surtur did. However, after incorpoating the asgard, Odin an all his projected souls became one. Seconds after, Odin disappeared into a brilliant light. It is implied that he had found a way to Ascension. SG-1 departed the planet, with intentions to communicate to the Asgard its location, for if they wanted to reclaim Yggdrasil. (SG1: "Valhalla")
Notes[]
- Odin was one of the two only known Asgards which have ascended.
