Atlantis landing on New Lantea's ocean.
An Ocean is a large body of water. Marine scientists that study it and its various aspects are called Oceanographers.
History[]
Lantea's ocean is the home of the Flagisallus. It was also the location of Atlantis for a time. (SGA: "Rising", "Grace Under Pressure", "Echoes")
Every twenty to thirty years on Lantea, its ocean would get unseasonably warm. This, combined with the planet having little land mass, would result in large hurricane storms. (SGA: "The Storm")
During the Lantean-Wraith war, the Lanteans submerged the city of Atlantis into Lantea's ocean before they left through the Stargate to Earth. (SGA: "Rising")
In 2006, Dr. Rodney McKay and Captain Hugh Griffin crashed a Puddle Jumper into Lantea's ocean. Griffin perished after the ocean's pressure made the windshield give way and flooded the forward section. (SGA: "Grace Under Pressure")
New Lantea's ocean was home to Atlantis for a time. (SGA: "Lifeline")
Alternate timelines[]
An alternate timeline where Atlantis floods under the ocean.
In an alternate timeline, when the Atlantis expedition traveled to Atlantis, which didn't have a failsafe mechanism, the city remained on Lantea's ocean floor as Atlantis' shield rapidly began to collapse as its power ran out. This resulted in the ocean flooding the city. (SGA: "Before I Sleep")
New Lantea in an alternate timeline.
In an alternate timeline, New Lantea's sun started turning into a Red giant. The planet got hotter and the ocean had dried up, which left Atlantis in a desert. (SGA: "The Last Man")
List of known oceans[]
Earth has the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic Ocean. (SG1: "Descent", "Continuum")
Lantea's ocean and New Lantea's ocean. (SGA: "Rising", "Lifeline")
M8R-169 has an ocean that's under a thick sheet of ice. (SGA: "Grace Under Pressure")
The SGC believe Chulak is comprised of three continents that are divided by a series of oceans and small island chains.[1] (RPG: "Roleplaying Game")
Over sixty-five percent of Cimmeria's surface is covered with salt-water oceans and inland freshwater seas.[2] (RPG: "Roleplaying Game")
Gallicia has a single continent which is surrounded by broad shallow oceans and its coasts are subject to monsoons and hurricanes.[3] (RPG: "First Steps: The Stargate Unexplored Worlds Roleplaying Sourcebook")
Over eighty-five percent of Hou Kainga's surface is covered by a shallow ocean.[4] Due to this, it experiences superstorms. Most of its hurricanes start in the equatorial regions and grow in force as they move north or south. Occasionally, a rogue storm can drift eastward, ravaging every island in its path.[5] (RPG: "First Steps: The Stargate Unexplored Worlds Roleplaying Sourcebook")
Langara has the oceans of Dethas and the Lentac.[6] (RPG: "Roleplaying Game")
Over sixty percent of Makkahn Ahk's surface is covered by saltwater oceans.[7] (RPG: "First Steps: The Stargate Unexplored Worlds Roleplaying Sourcebook")
Thirty percent of Oannes' surface has between twelve to fifteen saltwater oceans of varying sizes.[8] (RPG: "Fantastic Frontiers: Stargate Season One")
The Oceani live in transparent domes on Oceanus' ocean floor. They have a legend that their planet once held land, but the polar caps melted and led to a "great drowning".[9] (RPG: "Core Rulebook")
