"Neutronium—it's the-it's the base element from which nanites are made."
―Dr. Bill Lee[src]

Neutronium is a naturally occurring, extremely dense element, vital to Asgard technology as well as other forms of nanotechnology.

History[]

When setting up a time dilation trap to capture all the Replicators, the Asgard encased the device in solid neutronium, to slow the machines from reaching the time dilation device's timer an turn it off. However, the neutronium shell containing the time device contained a microscopic fissure, through which the newly constructed Human-form Replicator called First was able to slip through and turn off the time dilation device. The neutronium shell is no longer present when SG-1 arrive to restart the time dilation device, the Replicators no doubt consumed it. (SG1: "Unnatural Selection")

Neutronium is essential to the creation of Human-form Replicators. Orilla is particularly rich in neutronium, which is why it was chosen by the Asgard as the planet on which to rebuild their race after the destruction of Othala. However, the newly escaped Replicators, lead by Fifth invaded the planet, and began consuming some of the neutronium present on its surface. After fleeing Orilla, Fifth used the neutronium he acquired from the planet to construct RepliCarter. (SG1: "New Order, Part 2")

Another planet rich in neutronium is Asuras (M7R-227) in the Pegasus galaxy, a fact which the Atlantis expedition used to destroy the Asurans during the Battle of Asuras. (SGA: "Be All My Sins Remember'd")

Stargate Command has also started to mine some neutronium which was later stored on Earth most likely for the production of the nanite medical program. (SGA: "Outcast")
