Mjolnir pendants were ornamental jewelry made by the Asgard to help protect humans from the Goa'uld.
Overview[]
The Mjolnir is a small pendant shaped roughly like a hammer. It is made out of an alloy that repels Goa'uld. The metals disrupt the naquadah in the blood of the symbiote, causing them extreme discomfort and pain. The pendant also produces an odor that the Goa'uld can't stand, and humans can't smell. History[]
Before the construction of the Labyrinth and Thor's Hammer, the Asgard tried several methods of protecting Humans from the Goa'uld, one of which was the Mjolnir pendants. The Asgard distributed these pendants to humans to prevent them from becoming hosts.
When the population of humans grew numerous, however, the Asgard couldn't produce the amount of pendants needed to protect all of them and instead sought out new ways to protect them, which resulted in the development of Thor's hammer.
Although the Asgard ceased distribution of the pendants, many remained in the possession of humans on planets like Cimmeria and Vanaheim.
Humans began making their own pendants, though they never possessed the Goa'uld repelling ability as those of the Asgard. So many of the power-less pendants were produced that eventually all the true Mjolnir pendants were lost in the jumble and sank into obscurity. Many are thought to reside in the museums of the Tau'ri, while others remain as family heirlooms and good luck charms. Most of the remaining pedants are highly valued for their protective powers.
