"Well you know we have a chapter on Atlantis..."
Rodney McKay[src]

Mensa is the largest, oldest, and most famous high-IQ society on the planet Earth. It is a non-profit organization open to people who score at the 98th percentile or higher on a standardized, supervised intelligence test.

Lt. Colonel John Sheppard took the Mensa test and passed but did not join. However, Dr. Rodney McKay did join and is now a member of the Mensa chapter on Atlantis. (SGA: "The Brotherhood")

Alternate realities

In an alternate reality, John Sheppard is an active member of Atlantis' Mensa chapter and something of a know-it-all, making the Rodney McKay of our reality appear humble by comparison. (SGA: "McKay and Mrs. Miller")

Notes

  • Columbus, Ohio Area Mensa had temporary permission from Mensa to sell buttons saying "Atlantis Chapter" and the website www.mensa-atlantis.org (which redirects to the American Mensa Website). Proceeds went to local scholarship funds. To avoid copyright issues with MGM no specific mention of the Stargate Franchise was made on the buttons.
