- "This tastes like chicken."
"So, what's wrong with it?"
"It's macaroni and cheese." - ―Daniel Jackson and Samantha Carter[src]
Meals Ready-to-Eat — commonly known as the MRE — is a self-contained, individual field ration in lightweight packaging bought by the United States military for its service members for use in combat or other field conditions where organized food facilities are not available.
Members of Stargate Command and the Atlantis expedition commonly utilize these while on offworld missions. (SG1: "The First Commandment", "The Other Guys", SGA: "The Tower")
In 1997, SG-1 had MREs for dinner on their first night on Avnil, in which Daniel Jackson noted that his MRE, macaroni and cheese, tasted like chicken. (SG1: "The First Commandment")
Dr. Rodney McKay, the Chief Science Officer of the Atlantis Expedition and also a member of the Atlantis Reconnaissance 1 has stated that he enjoys MREs. (SGA: "Suspicion")
