Martin Edwards was a Colonel in the United States Air Force and the third to lead SG-11. He lead the Naquadah mining operations on the planet P3X-403. When an Unas attacked and killed Lt. Ritter, he wanted to attack the Unas but was ordered otherwise by Colonel Jack O'Neill. Upon returning to Stargate Command, he was ordered by General Maurice Vidrine to determine if the planet contained enough Naquadah to warrant using force against the Unas. Meanwhile, Dr. Daniel Jackson and Chaka attempted to negotiate with the Unas leader Iron Shirt. He discovered a large vain on Naquadah and had no intent to leave. When Iron Shirt gathered all the tribes and attacked the camp, he wanted to fight but was convinced by Daniel that they would easily be defeated. Daniel convinced him to kneel and allow him to negotiate with Iron Shirt again. After several hours, Daniel managed to convince Iron Shirt to mine the Naquadah to help defeat the Goa'uld.
