Marduk's zoo, designated PR7-632 by the Tau'ri, was a planet in the Milky Way galaxy that was ruled over by the Goa'uld System Lord Tiamat and later Marduk. Driven mad by the near constant war and infighting of the system lords she became determined to destroy them. To this end, on the planet she genetically engineered a breed of "monster Goa'uld", both in the sense of monstrously powerful altered symbiotes and genetically enhanced wild animals to host them, such as the Giratablulluh, the Kusarikku, and the Ugallu.
Overview[]
PR7-632 should by all rights be a dead planet. Originally a breeding ground for Tiamat's new army it almost died the day Marduk commanded naquadah filled motherships to plunge into his star. The resulting mini-nova immediately wiped out the small population as well as Tiamat's remaining orbital facilities. But life clung to the barren mountain in the form of packs of wild animals genetically enhanced to hold Tiamat's symbiotes. And after those torches went down, radiation-tolerant lichens and other simple plants that could tolerate the greatly reduced heat and light coming from the destroyed sun began to flourish. And so, a new brutal life cycle began.
Marduk's zoo is now a cold planet, with an atmosphere of 0.5. The geosphere of Marduk's zoo is turbulent, with only major earthquakes hitting Marduk's zoo about once every hundred days. There is a medium volcano within nine kilometers of the Stargate.
Marduk's zoo has four seasons, each lasting twenty-five days. During the year, Marduk's zoo averages out to have eighty-five days without rain, two days of storms, six days of winds up to between 4 and 13 meters per second, one day of winds up to 17 meters per second, one day of gale that reached a peak of a 26 meters per second.
History[]
The Stargate sometimes brought in fresh meat for the beast in the form of the travelers and there was no way out for them as the DHD had also perished in the firestorm. As the months dragged on, even this respite shrank away and for the next few years the survivors had to prey on each other. Eventually Marduk returned during an inspection of his new holdings and was pleased to see that the harsh conditions had produced some truly terrifying creatures. Setting the world as a reserve for breeding monsters, he supplied just enough food through the Stargate to keep the population stable and supply his campaigns with war creatures and his recreation with exotic animals to hunt.
When Marduk disappeared, Bel claimed the world and returned to its original purpose: army formation. Instead of breeding his warriors he collected the most likely candidates from his other worlds and sent them to this one to undergo a trial of survival. He was moved to the Stargate near the South Pole to allow access to the minimal water left trapped in that frozen wasteland. Those who face the environment and animals and survived were destined to become the toughest and most cunning of his troops, and eventually up by spaceship and indoctrinated into his corps. Those who have undergone the training that sometimes tell of organized bands of apparently intelligent beings followed them. This has led to speculation that Marduk never completely wiped out Tiamat's monster Goa'uld brood, but instead kept samples in perpetual imprisonment here for his own pleasure or against the day he might need to unleash them on a rival. Whether this is true, Bel's soldiers are routinely checked for Goa'uld implantation upon their retrieval from the planet. (RPG: "Living Gods: Stargate System Lords")
