In addition, he was approached by Major Samantha Carter, who was seeking to exonerate O'Neill. Together, they discover that the rogue NID agents work for a group of powerful businessmen, who want to find commercial applications for technologies brought back from other worlds through the Stargate. To accomplish the special task from the White House Barrett doesn't hesitate to blackmail Kinsey, or to work with Luthor, an illegal weapons seller, just to get information he needs. While working together with Carter, they developed a comfortable working relationship to the point of friendly teasing. When Carter thanked him for sending the Richard Woolsey memo, he took his chance to ask her out, but he was surprised to find out she was seeing someone. When Dr. Keffler refused to give them any other information about how to turn the Ark bomb off that the Anna/Sekhmet had armed, Barrett lost his temper and went after him physically.
