Madrona, or PX7-941 as it is designated by the Tau'ri, is a moon in the Milky Way galaxy. Madrona is approximately 14,000 light years from Earth.

Overview[]

Madrona is a satellite to a ringed gas giant that was ignited long ago in a sustained fusion reaction, making it a miniature star. SGC astronomers believe that the rings around the planet represent evidence of an initial terraforming effort that failed, causing the subject moon to break up. In any case, this secondary star orbits a Class B main sequence star (a hot blue star approximately the size of our sun) at a distance greater than that of Pluto from our sun. This primary star has no impact on Madrona whatsoever, it is simply another dot in the night sky. In spite of its small size, Madrona possesses a gravity of 0.8 G, which means it most have an extremely dense core. This is borne out by the world's great tectonic stability. Madrona's land mass consists of a single continent with ideal ecological conditions, covered in idyllic and lush plant life. The Madronans were brought to this world by the Furlings, that transplanted them from a planet other than Earth. Madrona also possesses a great naquadah deposit in its continent. History[]

Madrona is currently inhabited by the Madronans. It was terraformed by an unknown alien race roughly 900 years ago, transforming the planet to be more Earth-like, with a better climate (it is hinted in the book Stargate SG-1: Friends and Foes: Stargate Season Two that the unknown aliens who terraformed the planet were the mysterious Furlings, and that the Touchstone is one of their technologies). However, maintaining the nice weather on Madrona requires a device called the Touchstone, which was left behind by the unknown race. If this device is removed, the weather will rapidly devolve into a deadly blizzard; the planet is thus heavily dependent on the Touchstone. After the unknown alien race left the planet, it became home to the Madronans, a primitive race who did not have the technology to terraform the planet but who know how to use the Touchstone.

The planet was eventually visited by SG-1, who decided to return to the planet after five weeks in order to study the Touchstone. However, during this period, people wearing Stargate Command uniforms came to the planet and stole the Touchstone. The area around the Stargate transformed into an arctic landscape, and the Madronans shifted their attitude against the Tau'ri. SG-1 quickly agreed to recover the Touchstone, which they did after discovering that Earth's Beta Gate was used by the NID. After bringing the Touchstone back to Madrona, the High Priest of the Madronans was able to return the weather to the state it was in before the theft. (SG1: "Touchstone")

Stargate Command considered relocating the inhabitants of Langara to Madrona when their planet was faced with destruction. (SG1: "Fallout")
