The M249 Squad Automatic Weapon is a light machine gun used by the SGC and the Atlantis expedition. The 5.56mm NATO rounds fired by the weapon are capable of piercing the armor of a Wraith dart, causing medium to serious damage to the craft. Typically, the SGC uses the Special Purpose Weapon version with a collapsing butt stock and forward rail system, for mounting external accessories. (SGA: "Rising", "Duet")
