Laurence Foster was a Tau'ri from an alternate reality.
Alternate realities[]
In 2009, Laurence went on a business trip to Las Vegas and stayed at the Lucky Rollers Motel. Unknown to him, Laurence was staying next to a Wraith who was building a transmitter to signal the location of Earth to the rest of the Wraith in the Pegasus Galaxy. Due to being in the room next to the Wraith and his device which had radioactive elements, Laurence unknowingly developed radiation poisoning. Getting flu-like symptoms such as a high fever and a nosebleed, Laurence visited the hospital, was treated for the flu and released. That night, his symptoms worsening, Laurence confronted the Wraith due to his loud music. Laurence was horrified by the Wraith's visage and the Wraith fed on him, making Laurence the ninth victim of it.
Due to the radioactive isotopes left on the Wraith's other eight victims, Detective John Sheppard of the Las Vegas Police Department had a nurse look for cases of radiation poisoning the next day. The nurse recognized Laurence as potentially having radiation poisoning due to his nose bleeds which had previously been dismissed as due to the dry desert air. Using the address Laurence left at the hospital, Sheppard tracked him to the motel where the manager stated Laurence had already checked out. After a chase with the Wraith, Sheppard entered his room and found Laurence's shriveled body. It was recovered shortly thereafter by Richard Woolsey and a team from Area 51.
When talking with Dr. Rodney McKay, Sheppard noted that he tracked Laurence down as in serial killer cases, you're supposed to search for victims that got away. McKay then admitted that his team never thought to search for bystanders affected by proximity to the Wraith's device and theorized that Laurence got radiation poisoning from being in the next room to the Wraith.
