- "What we've learned since our initial contact is that they appear to be at a similar stage of development to that of the United States in the 1940s. Geopolitically, there is obvious mounting tension between the nations."
- ―Samantha Carter[src]
The Langarans are a near-human race with advanced genetics and exceptional learning capabilities native to Langara and descended from the Tau'ri of Earth.
Overview[]
They are divided into three superpowers, Kelowna, Tirania, and the Andari Federation. Langaran civilization have technology roughly equivalent to that of Earth near the end of World War II, industrial but still missing technologies like jet propulsion and antibiotics.
The three superpowers had undergone a long period of mistrust, but a military alliance between Tirania and the Andari Federation caused Kelowna to design a naquadria bomb. The detonation of the naquadria bomb actually de-escalated tensions in the long term by getting the three powers to come to the negotiating table, eventually agreeing to the creation of a world ruling body, the Joint Ruling Council. Physiology[]
- "His physiology merits further experimentation. He may still prove to be very useful."
- ―Anubis on Jonas Quinn.[src]
Though it was never explored, comments and behavior have suggested that Langarans may have slightly more advanced genetics than baseline humans. From the start, Jonas Quinn demonstrated exceptional learning capabilities, able to digest large quantities of information in a short amount of time. Even Daniel Jackson was surprised that Jonas was able to read through an ostensibly complex book that Daniel had loaned to him in only one night. After probing Jonas' mind, Anubis noted that Jonas' physiology was unique and drew his curiosity. While this may seem to be exclusive to Jonas, the Goa'uld implanted in Kianna Cyr also seemed impressed by Kianna's apparent heightened intellect. It's unknown whether this is characteristic of just a select few like Jonas and Kianna, or perhaps only Kelownans, or if it's how all Langarans have evolved.
