Josua was a Lantean doctor stationed on Atlantis more than ten thousand years before the Atlantis expedition arrived. A scientist, Josua preferred solitude and silence over the company of others and created his own sanctuary in Atlantis, a soundproof room which was hidden from the sensors. In this room, he created a Companion program known as Socius who was to be his only company while conducting his work, such as the Eratus experiment. His solitude would prove to be his undoing, however, as he had no friends to come looking for him when the rest of the Lanteans fled to Earth to escape the Wraith and so eventually died alone at his desk in his living quarters within the sanctuary as Socius would not allow him to leave due to not wanting to be left alone.
