The Jack O'Neill's NID sting was an event that took place during the Rogue NID investigation.
Prelude[]
Due to the theft of technology from allies of the Tau'ri, including the Tollan, the Asgard and the Nox by the Rogue NID, Earth's off-world allies demanded that the SGC stop them and prove their innocence in the threats. If they failed, the races threatened to end their alliances which would leave Earth exposed to danger from the Goa'uld, particularly without the Protected Planets Treaty. At the request of the Asgard, only Colonel Jack O'Neill was to be involved in the sting. (SG1: "Shades of Grey")
Shortly before the sting was to begin, SG-1 was attacked off-world by Jaffa working for the Goa'uld Hecate who had been tipped off by Harold Maybourne in order to keep them from exposing his operation. However, SG-1 escaped with the covert help of an alternate timeline O'Neill and Samantha Carter who were from a future where the rogue operation was never exposed, ultimately resulting in the Earth falling to the Goa'uld and the Wraith after the Asgard removed Earth from the Protected Planets Treaty. (SG1: "Hostile Ground", "Insurrection")
