Iodine is a chemical element that has the symbol I and atomic number 53 which can be used for medical purposes. When Major John Sheppard was immobilized by an Iratus bug and his team was trapped aboard their damaged Puddle Jumper part way through the Stargate, Lt. Aiden Ford found a vial of Iodine among their supplies. Ford dripped several drops of iodine on the Iratus' soft underbelly to see if it would help but the Iratus bug only trilled for several seconds before calming again. (SGA: "Thirty-Eight Minutes")
