Eden residents, freezing in their Ancient shuttle.
- "All right, everyone. We know we're fighting hypothermia here, so let's keep their core temperatures up."
- ―Lt. Tamara Johansen[src]
Hypothermia is a reaction that the body of a human has in consequence of cooling that reduces the threshold for maintaining metabolism and other body functions. If left untreated and severely progressed, hypothermia can lower blood pressure and the respiratory rate, and effect heart rate. It can eventually lead to death. Some symptoms of the condition can include confusion, amnesia, hallucinations, and pale, cold, inflamed skin.
History[]
Lt. Tamara Johansen attempting to treat a hypothermic person.
In 2009, the several individuals from the Destiny expedition who had chosen to remain on the planet Eden in the hope of better survival than on Destiny, died of hypothermia by the extreme winter. For a brief time, their corpses were reanimated and brough back to Destiny by one of its Ancient shuttles, and without remembering what had happened on Eden. However, their bodies later reverted back to their previous states. Lt. Tamara Johansen attempted to treat them for their hypothermia, but she was unable to keep them from dying again.
