The Daedalus traveling through hyperspace

Hyperspace (also known as subspace) is an alternate dimension used by several races for faster than light travel accessible by means of a hyperdrive.

Overview

Entry into hyperspace is achieved when a vessel opens a hyperspace window, which allows a vessel to enter subspace and achieve faster-than-light velocities. While at its core all hyperdrive technology followed the same basics, the hyperdrive technology of each race was ultimately unique in the sense that they each produced a unique type of subspace frequency. If a subspace frequency would be disrupted, vessels are destroyed upon entry into hyperspace; other hyperdrives would remain uneffected due to the differences in frequency however. (SGA: "First Contact")

Hyperspace apparently gives off high levels of radiation, shown by hull degeneration on Wraith Hive ships. With the exception of the Asgard core, which when activated can be tracked in hyperspace by Ori ships, the only method of detecting objects within subspace is via the long range sensors of Atlantis (and likely other city-ships as well) and Asgard sensors. (SG1: "Small Victories", "Unending")

Combat

Actual combat in hyperspace is questionable topic. First problem arises with tracking enemy in hyperspace, feat acomplished by only the most advanced senzors. Actual maneuvering in hyperspace was yet shown only for an Asgard vessel(SG1: "New Order").

Ship is sustained in hyperspace by complex energy field it´s hyperdrive generates, it can be assumed that any distruption of such field would result in either ship´s destruction or it´s emerging from hyperspace. (This was effectively used agains replicators (SG1: "Small Victories")). Projectile (either energy based or in physical one) leaving the field would probably result in it´s distruption.

Shields of most designs can not function in hyperspace, however this is most probably a power-issue as hyperdrives use significant portion of ship´s power. Only shield shown to work in hyperspace was the one of Atlantis. However it did not cover entire city as the hyperdrive itself was exposed. (SGA: "Adrift")

Since many races are incapable of even targeting object moving through hyperspace they most probably do not concern themselves with devising shield technology capable of fending of enemy in hyperspace.
