Hidoma, designated A1C-201 by the Tau'ri, is a planet in the Milky Way galaxy that has a Stargate.
Description[]
Hidoma is a hot, dry world orbiting a yellow G6-class star a little dimmer and cooler than the Earth's sun. It has 9.1 million inhabitants. The planet itself is, in geological terms, quite old, with mountain ranges no higher than the Appalachians and low hills with grasslands facilitating reforestation, making forests the dominant terrain that makes road trips quite easy. The world's Stargate and DHD stands in a park in a major urbanized area. Twenty-story structures surround the Stargate, all showing signs of unrepaired damage to the upper floors. A mounted stone ramp leads up transit ride Stargate with the back looking down on a stone copy of the DHD. The city of Shimana covers about 150 square kilometers, including distant "suburban" areas.
Building technology and architectural styles are similar to present day Tokyo with a superior network of streets and roads. Shimana standing on the shore of a small sea and at one point was a center of trade and commerce with similar-sized city on the other side of the ocean. Several structures are standing in water between two and three miles offshore, the still-functioning components in a wave-powered electricity generation system. Approximately one million people live in Shimana, a fifth of areas previously population. Electric power is available in all still inhabited areas allow limited production and a fairly comfortable lifestyle. Battery operated car traffic is common with trams provide public transportation. As one travels further from Stargate urbanization decreases gradually give way to low-light wooded hills. Small lower technical villages scattered in the area around Shimana. Most do not have more than a thousand residents and act as collection points for agricultural products.
There is no electricity available outside Shimana and activity in the smaller towns is limited to the sunlit hours outdoors with oil lamps and candles proves lighting indoors. Farms fills a large part of the country Shimana . Fields tend to be the same size and shape with pants that enables access farmer and beast. Grains including rice derivatives are the most common crops with less space is given over to leafy greens and other vegetables. Cattle and chickens - descendants of animals transported from the Earth with human inhabitants - is raised on some farms, but aquaculture provides most of the animal protein in local diets.
Weather patterns on Hidoma are stable with predictable seasonal variations. Local winters are wet more often than extremely cold, with dry and hot summers. Damaging storms are rare, and occur rarely enough to make them effective calendar events. Hidoma has a large natural satellite, Okata. The moon's orbital period is 30 local days with an average orbital distance of 466,000 km. Okata produces strong regular tides and Shimana has a maritime community that depicts very accurate tide tables. The world uses a ten-month lunar calendar, with the "extra" six days being considered holidays and spaced at intervals throughout the calendar year.
Areas of agricultural land were allocated with individuals, families and co-operatives and the first post-Holocaust crops were planted in early spring. Good weather led to a huge harvest in autumn and the agrarian society began to establish themselves in the landscape. Stocks of fertilizer and farm equipment progressively became goods and inherited property in the following years. Within half a dozen generations, a feudal system had come to be the governing system on Hidoma. Despite the best efforts of citizens Shimanas technology began to fail. The facilities for manufacturing replacement equipment was available, and information about manufacturing processes, but Hidomas severely depleted the population could not provide the level of service and maintenance needed to keep the factories and units in full working order. Within a century sustainable technology had fallen to a level equal to the Earth at the end of the nineteenth century. The massive tidal power generation stations, however, continued to work without any appreciable loss of efficiency. Scientists and historians worked alongside each other to stop the technological regression to recover useful bits of pre- holocaust knowledge. Today Shimana and Province are next to each other have developed two separate and distinct communities. Provinces provides most of Shimana's food and the city provides the provinces with fuel and repair parts for the agricultural machinery that allows for easy trading of both necessity and luxury, as recovery continues in Shimana and the global population is growing steadily.
History[]
Hidoma was originally inhabited by several thousand Japanese removed from their islands by Susanowa, a Goa'uld in service of Raiden. Susanowa secretly encouraged and enabled scientific development among their subjects and also delivered Goa'uld technology adapted for the transplanted people. He planned to use the advances developed by Hidomans to overthrow his master and take Raiden's place in the Goa'uld hierarchy. Within half a millennium Hidoma had developed an advanced society with a technology level superior to the early 21st Century Earth. Susanowa prepared to lead Hidomanerna an attack on his master Raiden. But one of his Jaffa reported raid on Susanowas plans Susanowa ordered to destroy the world and culture. Susanowa sent Death Gliders to Hidoma with biological agents that cover the planet with fast-acting microscopic organism developed ironically by Hidomaner scientist to kill people. The diseases spawned by Susanowas attack wiped out over 93 percent of the population Hidomas within 12 days. As soon as he confirmed planets decimation Raiden executed him for treason. Gate coordinates to Hidoma disappeared with Susanowa and Raiden saw no need to waste additional resources seize it now effectively a ghost world.
But the planet's inhabitants had not been completely destroyed. A community of survivors Hidomans began transmitting a message requesting any listeners gather in Shimana. Tomoko Hirana whose voice was heard on the message became Shimanas new leader. Hirana had been a city engineer prior to the Holocaust, and quickly began awarding reconstruction and recovery tasks to individuals based on their talents and abilities. Within months, enough of the city's dead had been buried or cremated to allow extended habitation residential and tools had been modified to provide reliable service at a greatly reduced population. Food supply was plentiful and the survivors effort soon focused on issues that go beyond the basic day-to-day life. A year after the attack life had settled into a routine. Stargate remained inactive and Hiranas order to avoid the device were followed without exception. Stored food had begun to shrink, and greenhouses and gardens were built throughout the city. The amount of food produced by these measures were insufficient to feed growing population and thousands of survivors left the city limits to begin full-scale agriculture in the surrounding regions called Province. Happy with Hiranas directive to place survivors in positions that best suit the individual abilities citizens, Shimana established a series appetite cape to determine leadership positions and professions in the general population. The farmers were more interested in efficient food production than a particular system of government. As commenced Hidomans rebuild their civilization again.
