"This is a medical situation, John. Only authorized personnel in hazmat suits are allowed to roam freely."
Elizabeth Weir[src]

A hazmat suit (Hazard suit) is a full-body garment designed by the Tau'ri to protect the wearer from hazardous materials, biological agents, or radiation. The suits usually contain a breathing apparatus to provide the wearer with clean, uncontaminated air. These are not to be confused with the Mission Oriented Protective Posture suits worn often by military personnel, and are carried by SG teams when they venture off-world. (SG1: "Singularity", "Legacy")

Both the Atlantis expedition and SG teams are often seen wearing hazmat suits when they know they are entering an area or dealing with materials that are contaminated or harmful in some way, but the suits are more commonly worn by civilian personnel. Teal'c is often exempt from wearing the suit, as his symbiote is able to protect him from more harmful materials than a Human. (SG1: "Singularity", "Revisions", SGA: "Hot Zone")

Instances of use[]

  • SG-1 and others wore hazmat suits to protect themselves from a bacteria on the planet Hanka that was present in both the water and the ground. The bacteria killed all the Hankans (save Cassandra) as well as the members of SG-7. (SG1: "Singularity")
Revisions 1

SG-1 reaches the dome edge.

  • SG-1 wore the suits to protect themselves from the harmful toxic environment of P3X-289 until they reached a safe pocket of air inside a dome on the planet. (SG1: "Revisions")
