The Great Shame is a small section of a continent on the planet Atura where life hasn't returned since the devastation of the Shameful war.
History[]
When the Aturen's Great Houses had the Shameful war, it ended with a fusion warhead detonated above Shinolon forest, where ten square miles of terrain was destroyed in an instant, and caused forest fires that destroyed hundreds of miles in every direction from the blast. The skies filled with ash. The Aturen armies realized they had gone too far and ordered a cease-fire to deal with the ecological calamity. Thousands of square miles were devastated from the fires.[1]
When the war ended, the Nox used their technology to cure the land from the fallout of the weapon. Life eventually returned to the continent except for a section known as the Great Shame.[1]
The Great Shame has a small crater carved out from the blast, and it stands as a lone monument dedicated to the shameful end of that conflict. Aturen are expected to make a pilgrimage to this site before they become an adult so that they can see the true cost of war in its entirety. The effect of this on their psyche is profound. The Aturen have worked to settle their differences peacefully since that day, considering it a failure to resort to violence or destruction.[1] (RPG: "Core Rulebook")
