Gerak was previously First Prime of the minor Goa'uld Montu, with the creation of the Free Jaffa Nation, their first leader.
Biography
He was known to be extremely focused on the military part of the new nation, instead of the democratic part. He was foremost a most skilled military leader, so this came naturally for him. (SG1: "Origin")
When a Prior of the Ori starts visiting him, he began to trust and eventually follow the Book of Origin as a foundation for his life, and all Jaffa, and converted to Origin. He was soon tested by the Ori, when he is ordered to kill the rebelling Jaffa, including leaders like Teal'c and Bra'tac, but he wouldn't do it. When the Prior discovered this, he found Geraks objections of no significance. When Gerak asked for forgiveness, he was brought to the City of Celestis where he was transformed to a Prior himself. Teal'c and Bra'tac, however, raised an army of Jaffa opposed to Origin, hoping to force Gerak to choose the Jaffa over the Ori.
Gerak brought a massive fleet of ha'taks to Chulak, where the rebels were gathering. Taking him down to Chulak to the gravesite of Gerak's father, Teal'c made him realize that the Ori were truly no better than the Goa'uld. Travelling to Earth, Gerak managed to cure the Tau'ri of the plague that was afflicting them. This activated a self-destruct in him, causing him to spontaneously combust, proclaming that he died free. (SG1: "The Fourth Horseman, Part 1", "The Fourth Horseman, Part 2")
