Freeman was one of the soldiers who traveled through the Stargate to Abydos when it was opened in 1995. He was the group's communications officer. When Dr. Daniel Jackson was dragged off by a Mastadge, he was among the soldiers who stayed at the base camp. He was captured by Ra and his Horus Guards. He and the rest of the men were due to be executed by Daniel Jackson in a show of allegiance to Ra, but at the last second it was learned that the Abydonians were armed and Daniel instead fired on Ra, allowing Freeman and the rest to escape.
