- "This isn't like any [...] shield we've ever come across. It's more like a solid wall."
- ―Major Samantha Carter[src]
Force fields are a type of specialized shield designed to prevent an individual, weapon fire, or any type of matter from passing through a certain point. They are utilized by many races as security barriers.
Use of force fields by race[]
Ancient[]
- Main article: Ancient force field
The Ancients used force fields to protect their Stargates and to seal people in certain sections of their ships. They are also used in the Atlantis brig and may be used in other rooms to quarantine individuals. (SGA: "Suspicion") Force fields were also employed on the Mobile drilling platform in the event of flooding. (SGA: "Submersion")

Goa'uld[]
- Main article: Goa'uld force field
The Goa'uld used a massive force field to block passage to the Stargate when SGs 3, 5, 6 and 11 were sent to retrieve SG-1 from Hathor's Stargate Command mock-up. Because of its size, a huge generator was required to power it. The force field was deactivated when C-4 charges were remotely detonated inside the generator. (SG1: "Into the Fire")
During their mission to destroy Apophis' Battleship Jack O'Neill and Samantha Carter managed to run through the force fields aboard the ship, due to the enhanced Atanik armbands. Carter was trapped behind a force field when the armbands effects began to wear off. When the C-4 package exploded and the power core was destroyed all the force fields came down and the team managed to escape. (SG1: "Upgrades")
The Ha'tak stolen from Cronus was capable of surrounding the Stargate in its bay with a forcefield that presumably lasted even after the gate was ejected from the ship itself. This is likely a standard ability any Ha'tak class ship possesses. (SG1: "Exodus")
Anubis utilized a force field as an iris for his Stargate on Tartarus. This force field iris was yellow in color and utilized similar to the one on Atlantis. It is possible Anubis was utilizing Ancient knowledge in doing this. This force field iris only allowed Kull warriors to pass unharmed as the Kull armor absorbed the energy of the force field. (SG1: "Evolution, Part 2")
When Khonsu captured SG-1, his First Prime Her'ak imprisoned the group with a force field. (SG1: "The Other Guys")

The Tok'ra use an advanced form of one-way force field to keep their prisoners inside their cells whilst allowing weapons fire to enter the cell should it be necessary. It can be used to capture someone inside but Kull Warriors have been able to pass through due to their Kull armor's energy absorbing qualities. (SG1: "Evolution, Part 1")
Tollan[]
- Main article: Tollan force field
The Tollan made use of force fields to protect key areas of the government buildings. Is not know the characteristics or the strength of the field. (SG1: "Between Two Fires")

Wraith[]
- Main article: Wraith force field
The Wraith have made limited use of force field technology, using them hold Asurans who could otherwise escape from traditional holding cells with relative ease. It is possible, however, that is not a typical Forcefield, otherwise a stunning one, similar to the one Michael used with the Gateship. (SGA: "Reunion")
