Football is a competitive team sport known for combining strategy with physical play. The objective of the game is to score points by advancing the ball into the opposing team's end zone. Football is a popular game on Earth in the United States of America and Canada.

Lt. Colonel John Sheppard is fond of this game and believes football to be the cornerstone of Western civilization. He even brought a video of it when allowed only one personal item to bring to Atlantis. He watched this video soon after arriving in Atlantis, with the rest of his team, and attempted to explain to Teyla Emmagan what exactly football is and how it's played. Dr. Elizabeth Weir, however, isn't really a fan of the game. (SGA: "Hide and Seek")
