Firearms, guns, or projectile weapons are weapons extensively used by the Tau'ri. They launch projectiles using explosive powder, the most primitive form a blend of charcoal, sulfur, and potassium nitrate. While considered technologically primitive compared to most energy weapons they are more than capable of piercing the armor worn by Jaffa, Ori soldiers, and Wraith warriors. Unlike the weapons used by most other races, in both the Milky Way and Pegasus galaxies, Tau'ri firearms were not designed for any single purpose. Some were designed for greater armor penetration, others for maximum damage. Compared to the firearms of other human cultures, Tau'ri weapons are considerably more advanced, which should not come as any suprise, as there are millions of different models of firearms, being developed by thousands of different companies.
Interestingly, guns are the only known weapon capable of permanently damaging insect-form Replicators, prior to the invention of the Replicator disruptor. While the blocks may come back together after one shot, several shots will destroy them. Firearms are also not susceptible to energy disruptions or lose power over time.
