- "Now, according to the ancient database, every twenty or thirty years, the sea gets unseasonably warm. Now, that, for reasons too boring to get into, means that hurricanes are much more likely to occur."

El Niño is a global climate phenomenon that is associated with warmer than normal ocean surface temperatures, which occurs due to variations in trade winds. This disrupts normal weather patterns and affects the global climate.
History[]
When the Rogue NID stole the touchstone from the Madronans in 1998 and experimented with the device, it caused Earth to have unusual weather conditions. One TV reporter informed that, either due to the El Niño effect or bad luck, there was another set of storms that stretched over America. (SG1: "Touchstone")
In 2004, Dr. Rodney McKay informed Dr. Elizabeth Weir and AR-1 that Lantea's sea gets unseasonable warm every twenty or thirty years, which made hurricanes more likely to occur. He didn't explain the reasons why, stating it was too boring to get into. Dr. Radek Zelenka then brought up El Niño and Lantea's ocean, which McKay cut off and reiterated that it was too boring to get into. (SGA: "The Storm")
